2011 Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo
The new BMW 5-Series is no slouch even in 535i trim, as we learned last year at New Jersey Motorsports Park. But Alpina has a way of massaging BMW's cars into truly special bits of motoring pleasure, and we're looking forward to the B5 Touring--even though we probably won't be able to get it--eagerly. The latest from Germany says it will debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week. The sedan version of the B5 (pictured above) made its debut last summer.
Powered by a 507-horsepower take on BMW's familiar 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8, the B5 gets the same engine as that found in the B7. The Touring appellation, as you've likely surmised, means wagon. The combination, along with Alpina's proven suspension tuning and interior treatments, should be fantastic.
Even with all that horsepower and a solid chassis to start with, the B5 Touring's reported acceleration, per Auto Bild, isn't all that impressive: 4.8 seconds to 62 mph, and a top speed of 186 mph.
We'll have to hold out at least another seven days for official details and images, should the B5 Touring actually materialize, but we expect it to share its key modifications with the B5 sedan, tweaked lightly for the different propensities of the wagon form factor.
