BMW M3 M Performance exhaust

The new M3 comes with plenty of growl and howl from the factory, but if you'd like to tune it up a notch and get a little more power out of the deal, BMW's new M Performance exhaust system might be what you're looking for.

BMW doesn't say how much power is gained, though it says it optimizes flow and reduces backpressure. The biggest gain from the exhaust is probably a loss: of weight. The M Performance exhaust is 20 pounds lighter than the stock unit.

Priced at a whopping $4,374 (not including installation!) however, the M Performance exhaust is in the stratosphere. The thin up there could cloud your judgment.

You can see and hear the new exhaust in the video below, or grab the sound as a ringtone (for free) here. Let us know if that sounds like $4,374 smackeroos of awesome. Ourselves? We'd take it to the local race shop and have them mandrel bend some stainless tubing, drop in a muffler and cat or two, and call it a day.

  1. lol nelson. nobody is going to an exhaust shop and have them ghetto up an exhaust on their $60k baby just to save a few bucks. I am sure in due time the aftermarket will produce something just as fine for about half the cost.

  3. If it were me, I'd keep the stock system in place and throw on a couple of electronic cutouts, a dual map tune, and pocket the change.

  4. Its an original BMW M Performance product that wont void the warranty... IF you have $60+ grand to spend on a car than financing an extra $4 grand shouldnt be a problem... I bet you an M3 with the added exhaust tune would re sell higher than an m3 with any other type of after market exhaust fitted...

  5. themishmosh: if you think a custom welded stainless mandrel-bent exhaust done by an experienced performance shop is "ghetto" ... well, enjoy spending more than you need to for the same results.
It's not a question of if you have the money to buy the M3; that same $4k could be better spent taking the car to track days. Especially considering the car is damn fast out of the box.
