Could A Camaro Z28 Still Happen?

Despite the fact that the much-rumored 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 turned out to be called the ZL1, there is still a chance--perhaps a very good chance--that a new Z28 could slot in above the SS.

The original Z28 of the past was as much about handling as it was about straight-line performance, so that explains why GM chose the ZL1 moniker for what's expected to be the fastest Camaro ever. Jalopnik today is reporting that the company is still trying to build a better-handling Camaro and call it the Z28, with a launch date set for about 18 months from now.

There's a twist--since GM doesn't yet know exactly in which direction to go with this car, the company is soliciting consumer feedback.

While we think perhaps the SSX show car from SEMA could be the next Z28, we're curious as to what you think. Please leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

  2. Make a Z-28 ,not say it is and call it something elese,ZL-1,like in 69 ok,Z-28 then put the Z-28 on it. Maby make something between the ZL-1 and 2-SS,and that would be the Z-28,The ZL-1 looks to be more of a power car, thats ok,the Z-28 be everyday driven performance car a bit up from the 2-SS, I would buy the Z-28 only if it was a Z-28--TKS

  3. thats what theyre talking about, the z28 would handle better than an ss and still have the balls the ss is known for..the part of the article even mentions the same thing you do, slide it in between the ss and zl1..theyre not making a z28 and calling it a zl1 read the article and dont confuse yourself, ",not say it is and call it something elese,ZL-1,like in 69 ok", "The ZL-1 looks to be more of a power car,"

  4. Please,Please build a car that exemplifies what the original z was about.High winding, normally aspirated, small cubic inch car that will handle quite well. Can we not take a que from Ford (ugh)with what they have done with the boss 302?.Does anyone recall LT-1 (70-72)?How do we get this to GM?

  5. i agree dont take a que from ford..if youve noticed ford has never had a good handling mustang...they started out with 4 wheel drum brakes and skinny tires with a big underpowered heart at the center of it all, and now theyve got the supercharged suprise under the hood and thicker tires and 4 wheel discs but for some reason,(600hp to the 255s sittin out back) it cant handle and the skid pad tests dont even come close to the camaro or the challanger..maybe next year

  6. i think the z28 pkg should have the ls7 with a better handling platform, or it may be cool to have the platform and let the buyer choose the motor, 6.2, 7.0, or 6.2 S/C
