Running slow pace laps during caution periods might seem like a relatively lame duty for a high-performance car, but when that pace car has to run hard enough to keep in front of massively powerful, lightweight, race-tired Daytona prototypes, even at half-speed, it's a different story.

The 1-Series M Coupe handled its Daytona 24 pace duties with aplomb, looking well-composed even when cornering at speed, easily keeping the necessary pace.

Along the way, the team at SPEED spent some time with the 1-Series M, and this video shows us both the on-track performance and their take on the car.

Enough talk. Watch.

  1. The car looks great. It is a great addition to the M family. The one question I want to ask the engineers at BMW is why they chose to make it a 4 door rather than a coupe. The 1 series is so small that it would of made more sense to make the coupe standard for all 1 models.
