Tunisian Rioters destroy Ferrari California

This past week we saw rioters in the African nation of Tunisia make off with a Ferrari 599 GTB supercar, which just so happened to belong to the country’s ousted president, Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, who has fled to Saudi Arabia.

Now another Ferrari, this one reportedly owned by a member of Ali’s family, Sofiane Ben Ali, has been targeted by angry rioters, and this time the car involved wasn’t so lucky.

The sorry-looking Ferrari California was stripped of its wheels, badges and most of its interior accessories. However, the rioters appear to have left the car’s carbon ceramic discs, brake calipers and even the engine relatively unharmed.

Regardless of the reason behind it, the damage done to this Ferrari is harrowing to see, especially knowing the kind of joy the car could have delivered.

  1. I may not be a Ferrari fan but I still have respect for the engineering. At least the first guy stole the car so that someone else can enjoy it, these guys just wrecked this. It's so sad to see...

    Bad stuff?

  2. In a "free-er environment" contextually speaking you can gladly and honestly say or print the joys this car will surely deliver on it's owner.. but this is not that kind of occasion.

  3. Hi guys,
As a Ferrari fan, i think that a California shouldn't be treated this way regardless of the origins of its owner..
..but as a Tunisian who lives in Tunisia, i think this is totally understandable. I have a thousand explanations for this but i think it's better to keep it there as this site is not for politics.
One more thing, the yellow 599 GTB belongs to Slim Chiboub, husband of Ben Ali's first daughter and once manager of the Espérance Football Club which official colors are red and yellow. (I did not see the interior of the car but i'm suspecting it to be red). However, the car now has been given back to the gouvernement which also put its hands on a big number of SLRs, Lambos and Ferraris that were aquired for zero dinars by Ben Ali and his wife's families. I have no idea about the future of those supercars. Making them police cars would be great :)
    Greetings from Tunisia!

  4. I agree with you Amine, after you explained your side of the story. Also, that would be quite interesting to see them as police cars...
