2011 Ford Mustang Wins Two Classes In Car And Driver's Lightning Lap Competition

Car and Driver's Lightning Lap is that magazine's test of a car's skill, and this year, the full 2011 Ford Mustang lineup was entered in the challenge. The Mustang took the overall victory in two of the classes in the competition held at Virginia International Raceway.

The V-6 Mustang won the LL1 Class (under $30,000) with a lap time of 3:12.5, putting it ahead of such iron as the Subaru Impreza WRX and the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec.

Both the Mustang GT and the Shelby GT500 were entered in the LL2 ($30,000 to $59,999) class, and the GT500 won with a time of 3:04 and the GT finished third with a time of 3:08.6
