The new and largely already revealed 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK won't be showing in Detroit, according to the latest reports, instead opting for a debut during Mercedes' 125th anniversary celebrations January 29. We may get a look at the car, however, in Mercedes' first Super Bowl spot.

The ad, scheduled for 60 seconds during the fourth quarter, is Mercedes' first foray into the biggest advertising and sporting event of the year, and coming in sync with the company's 125th anniversary, could spell something special. Or we could just get an extended look at the previously unveiled 2012 models.

It's worth noting that the 2012 SLK hadn't been confirmed for the Detroit show--this isn't a change in plans--though it had been expected to make its debut there, or even more likely (and as we had guessed), later in the year in Geneva. The Geneva show may still be the first full public outing for the car, coming just a handful of weeks after the anniversary shindig.

If you're not up to speed on the 2012 SLK, we've got your fix.
