Police in Southern California have reunited the owner of a 1973 Chevrolet Camaro with his car--which was stolen 27 years ago.

Nevada resident Robert Andrews reported the car stolen from Santa Ana, California, his former hometown, on July 31, 1983.

Recently, a man bought the car from a woman in Los Angeles, who said that the car had been sitting in her backyard for 15 years.

Because the car was an older model, the California DMV required it to be inspected by the California Highway Patrol. During the inspection, it became clear the VIN on the windshield was not the original VIN. The original was found on other parts of the car, and the numbers matched Andrew's report.

It took a month for the Nevada Highway Patrol and the CHP to track Andrews down, but they did.

He picked it up last week, and several officers already told Andrews that they might want to buy it.
