Mercedes Night View Assist Plus adds pedestrian spotlight
Night time driving can be difficult even with excellent vision and good headlights--and it can be especially dangerous for pedestrians at the roadside. But Mercedes-Benz has been tackling this area of road safety aggressively for years now, today announcing the addition of a unique spotlight system to alert both driver and pedestrian.
The system uses the existing Night View Assist Plus system's pedestrian detection capability to find the person, then applies the new spotlight system and a series of alerts in the cabin to shed more light on the situation, simultaneously alerting the pedestrian to the car's presence through the spotlight.
The new spotlight feature will be included as a standard feature of the Night View Assist Plus system as of summer 2011. Check out the official release on page two for the full details, including a hypothetical use scenario, plus diagrams in the gallery above.
