It’s now been more than a year since the Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR went out of production but at the recent 2010 Essen Motor Show, basically Germany’s version of SEMA, a new version of the striking supercar was unveiled.

Well, that is not entirely true as the car rolled out in Essen, carrying the “McLaren Edition SLR” title, is actually a retrofit upgrade for existing versions of the SLR. Only 25 of the kits are to be made, all of them an official package offered exclusively by McLaren.

The kit consists of a new bodykit, aimed at increasing downforce, as well as modified steering and suspension settings. Interestingly, it looks like the guys at McLaren have attempted to draw attention away from the Mercedes-Benz part of the equation, which is not surprising considering the two firms are no longer building cars together or working with each other in motorsports anymore.

  1. "McLaren have attempted to draw attention away from the Mercedes-Benz part of the equation, which is not surprising considering the two firms are no longer building cars
together or working with each other in motorsports anymore. "
Response: This is partially untrue. Mercedes only retains a small percentage of the McLaren Group shareholding at this point, but McLaren Racing Limited still maintain an association with Mercedes-Benz in the world of motorsport. McLaren Racing still use the engines made by Mercedes High Performance Engines Ltd. (formerly Mercedes-Ilmor), and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. They will continue trading as Vodafone McLaren Mercedes all though Mercedes-Benz has created a new "works" team-Mercedes GP Petronas F1 Team(Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Limited derived from the former Brawn GP Limited).
