Here’s something you don’t see every day. The president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is selling his 1977 Peugeot 504 to help raise funds for charity.

The car is being sold in an international auction and all funds will go to help the Mehr housing project, a charitable organization that provides housing for low-income families.

The sale is fitting as Ahmadinejad is widely recognized in Iran as the "people's president" and friend of the common man. Not surprisingly, listed as assets in his possession, Ahmadinejad only has a 40-year-old 1,900 square-foot house in a lower-middle class part of east Tehran, the Iranian capital, two cheque accounts and the old Peugeot sedan.

Though a 1977 Peugeot 504 itself is hardly what you’d call a collector’s item, this particular example would certainly have value, even if only as a talking piece.

  1. Rhetorical question of the week: "Would you buy a used car from this man?"

  2. Mahmoud you are such a wonderful president/person! I wish there were many like you. I am a fan of 504 Peugeot and just wish i had enough to buy that one. I wish all the best to whoever buys it. Its a classic and a performer. It will even stay another 40 years.
