Most companies, when they want to engage in a bit of team building, will rent a nice venue someplace and throw something along the lines of a company picnic. Aston Martin, no ordinary company, came up with a different sort of team building exercise back in 2006, when a group of its employees got together and ran a street-legal V8 Vantage in the annual Nurburgring 24 Rennen 24-hour race.
They finished fourth in class, 24th overall.
Even Aston's CEO, Dr. Ulrich Bez, drove a stint in the race.
One year later, they did it again, and that time, to commemorate the event, sold Vantage V8 models set up like the car they raced. Called N400, because the car ran at the Nurburgring and its V8 engine made 400 horsepower, 480 copies of that car were produced and sold—240 coupes and 240 roadsters.
Aston has run a street car in the race every year since (once even with the Rapide), and for 2011, Aston has again applied the N designation to a Vantage with the intention of commemorating the Nurburgring 24 Rennen. This time though, the car is a V12 Vantage producing 420 horsepower. So yes, the car is designated N420. This time though, only 420 copies of this car will be built and sold—once again making it an instant collectible.
Funny thing, even though in the rest of the world the race is pretty well known, here in the U.S. it isn’t. So, Aston just released the video below to promote the car. Spoiler Alert! Once you hear the N420’s engine note, you’re definitely going to want one.
Pricing for the 210 coupes will be a remarkably civil $132,000 each; the roadsters will command $145,000. That is, assuming you can find a dealer who lost his Sharpie before he could mark up the sticker.
