Code Red Shelby/Nelson Racing GT500
The 2011 Shelby GT500 is an impressive beast, as we showed you from our first drive at Virgina International Raceway (complete with video). But now Shelby and Nelson Racing Engines have decided to team up to make the 2007-2009 GT500 something truly unique, with the aid of a pair of turbochargers boosting output to 1,000 rear-wheel horsepower.
Yes, that's insane. But it's our kind of insane. The vicious exhaust note alone is reason enough to love this car, but once those turbos spool, the pandemonium in the cabin is...well, watch the video and see for yourself.
Strapping a pair of turbos on and sending the GT500 on its way is one thing, but the Shelby/Nelson Racing duo have done much, much more to the car, upgrading brakes, gearbox, rear-end, and more, including two separate fuel systems and gas tanks for their "octane on demand" solution explained in the video.
