Owners of diesel variants of any 2011 model year Mercedes-Benz E, GL, M or R-Class models better take note as the automaker has recently issued a recall alert for these particular models due to a leaky fuel filter hazard. The recall comes after a number of cases of leaking diesel fuel were reported by customers in Europe.

According to Mercedes-Benz, an O-ring inside the filter has not been lubricated properly, which can lead to leakage of the fuel filter. While this is not immediately harmful to the occupants of the affected models, diesel fuel may be deposited on the roads, making them slippery and increasing the potential for a crash.

A total of 2,297 vehicles are included in the recall.

Owners should take their vehicles to the closest Mercedes-Benz dealer, which will replace the fuel filters free of charge.
