Aston Martin Cygnet: The Daily Commuter Aston

Aston Martin Cygnet Concept

With stricter emissions regulations being set, niche car manufacturers like Aston Martin will have to radically change their business strategy in order to bring their average fuel economy up to an acceptably “green” level. The British sports car company's solution to the problem is to introduce the new Aston Martin Cygnet.

Although the small commuter car is essentially a rebadged and restyled Toyota iQ, the vehicle maintains its Aston-ness through its high level of luxury. Buyers will still be pampered as all Aston Martin customers are, as they will customize their vehicle to meet their exact tastes in the same way that they would personalize a new Rapide or a DB9 Volante. The Cygnet’s goal is to serve as a daily commuter car for Aston’s customers--ideal for darting in and out of city traffic, snagging small parking spaces, and getting great gas mileage.

Given that the Cygnet is scheduled to begin production next year, the company has already begun its marketing campaign and has recently released this video featuring Dr. Ulrich Bez, Aston’s CEO, and Marek Reichman, the company’s Design Director, talking about the thinking that went into developing the Cygnet. Check it out and let us know if you think the Cygnet is a fantastic concept or just a gimmick meant to address the emissions regulations:
