The 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged and 2011 Land Rover LR4 both grabbed awards at Mudfest last week.

Mudfest, the nickname given to the Northwest Sport Utility Vehicle of the Year Competition, is an annual event where journalist from the Pacific Northwest can compare the latest off-road vehicles.

For two days, journalist test the on-road performance and off-road prowess of the available vehicles. Each of the four categories (affordable, family, luxury and off-road) are scored on performance, braking and handling. The SUV of the Year award is presented to the journalists’ top scoring vehicle.

The 2011 Land Rover LR4 won Best Off-Road SUV and the 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged snagged the prestigious SUV of the Year accolade.

Chris Marchand, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Land Rover North America, said, “We are thrilled with the performance of the Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles this year.” Marchand went on to say, “Being named the 2010 Northwest SUV of the Year is an outstanding accomplishment for the Range Rover Sport and its great knowing that the automotive journalists are recognizing its capability both on- and off-road.”

Both vehicles carry price tags that make them unlikely to see anything more than a gravel road, but they are capable of much more.

The 2011 Land Rover LR4 starts at $48,500 and the 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged has a staggering $73,395 MSRP.
