The Audi RS line of cars are a range of high performance models built completely in-house by the automaker’s quattro division. Designed to compete with BMW’s M Division and Mercedes-Benz AMG, Audi’s RS models have a reputation for being consistently more extreme than their Teutonic rivals but sadly, the U.S. has missed out on most of them.

That is starting to change, with confirmation coming earlier this year that the new TT RS and RS5 models will be heading to the U.S. by 2012. And now, with even more RS models in the pipeline, there’s word that some of these will coming to local showrooms as well.

Speaking to Motor Trend, Audi quattro development chief Stephan Reil gave a few details on the future plans for the RS line. Of most importance, the U.S. is to get more RS models thanks to an improved exchange rate differential and greater similarity in emissions regulations between the U.S. and Europe.

Some of the potential new RS models include an entry-level RS3 due early next year, a new-generation RS4 due next year as well, and a new RS6 based on the next-generation Audi A6 further down the track.

One thing is for certain, there won’t be any RS badges fitted to Audi’s SUV range, and neither the A8 flagship sedan.

  1. This is nothing new, I've been saying it for the last year or so and my suspicions were confirmed with the announcement of the RS5 and TT-RS coming to the US. It only made sense, since Audi was missing out on market share that BMW and Mercedes have been dominate in for years.

    Bad stuff?

  2. This is all sweet news!! I can see where there would be no RS edition of the A8 range, for you have an A8L with the W12 and the S8 would be nicely substantial, as well; I'm not sure what will power it. It's like over at BMW, where there is no M version of the 7-Series, for you have the Alpina B7 and the V12-powered 760i & 760iL, essentially an M version is not needed for the 7er.

  3. I'll take an S badge to their SUVs at least then.

  4. How about they send over a diesel V6 powered A4, lots of torque and great milage, would go well with the RS models.
