2012 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 spy shots
Rocky is the road that has led to the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Z28's production. Fully designed but put on hold before the standard Camaro's production release, then finally confirmed for production this summer, the Z28 leverages GM's stable of supercharged LS engines to turn the new pony car into a force-fed monster.
Sporting the 6.2-liter supercharged LSA V-8 from the Cadillac CTS-V series, the 2012 Camaro Z28 packs a serious punch, even compared to the nothing-to-sniff-at 426-horsepower Camaro SS. Perhaps best of all, from the looks of the car in testing at the Nurburgring, the suspension is getting some much-needed upgrades for truly high-performance driving.
We've flogged the 2010 Camaro SS on track, and while it acquits itself very well for a mid-$30,000 production car, it could use stiffer springs, better dampers, wider front tires and wheels, and more fade-resistant brakes. We expect most if not all of these upgrades to come in the Z28 package, as well as a more aggressive body package and aerodynamics treatment.
From the looks of the car spotted here, there's not much going on that's not standard Camaro in terms of bodywork, though our spies tell us there's definitely n LSA under the hood.
Stay tuned for the latest spy shots of the 2012 Z28 as testing continues.
