Fans of BMW's “The Hire” series of short films may be excited to learn the movie as car commercial genre has a new player. Audi, Dania Ramirez and Justin Timberlake have joined forces to tout the new Audi A1 that went on sale in Germany on August 26.
In “The Next Big Thing”, Justin Timberlake is John Frank, a straight-laced IT specialist. He meets the mysterious Toni, played by Dania Ramirez, who needs John to save her life. More is revealed in steps--that's the idea. The tension builds until the final episode. On the Audi Website, interactive elements provide secrets, details and background about each episode: users get to know the characters, see the film from unusual perspectives, and flashbacks fill in the plot.
Swedish director Henrik Sundgren filmed for five days with up to eight cameras--in narrow city streets, a parking deck, in cafes and clubs. Also playing a part: more than 40 actors, about 100 staff members, the Swedish band Torpedo, and of course, the A1. The running time for the series is 16 minutes in total--excluding the additional virtual scenes. We’ve aggregated links to all six episodes below so you can watch them in succession.
Currently there are no plans to market the MINI-sized Audi A1 in North America, though the next generation of the car is reportedly being readied for this continent. Given the car is just being introduced in Europe, that could be as long as seven years out.
For now, just enjoy the movie...
