It was a well known fact that Porsche was bringing out the 918 Spyder to Monterey and allowing potential buyers an up-close and personal look at the concept car. And while it’s nice to read up on facts about cars, hearing a true car fan getting to talk to the people behind the car is a nice treat.
Luckily Jay Leno is a passionate gearhead with celebrity status, so no surprise he got to go see the car, but thankfully he brought his “Jay Leno Garage” crew up to film the car as well.
Luckily Jay knows his audience, and doesn’t really dive into the performance specs of the car that most enthusiasts. Instead he talks with Michael Mauer, who is head of design at Porsche. Interesting aspects of the car that haven’t gotten a lot of press is the choice to replace the mirrors with cameras to provide a full panoramic view outside the car, and the pop-up air intakes on the engine cowl.
Check out the full video with Leno’s classic jokes, as well as some good questions that don’t normally get asked.
