Three time World Rally Champion. Bertone design. Ferrari engine.
All of those added up to make the Lancia Stratos one of the seven wonders of the automotive world. It was able to make the wedge shape look prettier than Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) while power sliding down the Col de Turini. College students might recognize it from various racing games (Sega Rally Championship anyone?). Or maybe they will recognize it from this magnificent film from Top Gear:
Lancia today is an unremarkable division of Fiat that sells rebodied Chryslers. Their pitiful existence today is almost an insult to their pedigree. Until last week, when this emerged. That is undeniably a Stratos. Much like the original, power comes from a Ferrari engine. This time it is believed to be the 4.3-liter V-8 out of the F430. Combine that with the stumpy wheelbase, and this car should be an absolute monster.
At least it will be pretty. Just look at it. Why wouldn't you want this plastered on to your dorm room wall? Thank you, Lancia. Maybe this is the beginning of a comeback. We can only hope.
