Unless you’re a racing enthusiast, you can probably only name a couple of race car drivers regardless of their specialty. Among the most prominent names are Michael Schumacher, Danica Patrick, Ken Block, and Rhys Millen. But what about Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima? Put it this way: Tajima was winning races before any of those other drivers were even out of diapers.
That’s right, the 60-year-old rally champ won the 2010 Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb for the fifth consecutive time. And equally impressive, although Monster, fell about ten seconds short of the competition’s record climb of 10 minutes and 1.4 seconds (which he set in 2007), he still raced up the mountainside 28 seconds faster than Paul Dallenbach, who finished in second place.
But so what? Tajima’s latest victory on the Peak is old news. But let me ask you this: Do you have any idea what it’s like to zoom up 4,721-feet to the summit, as you drift along a 12.42 mile course that switches between gravel and dirt throughout its 156 turns? Didn’t think so...
Which is exactly why Falken Tire, one of the Monster’s sponsors, has released this HD video of Tajima’s winning run up the Peak in The Race to the Clouds.
