A few weeks ago Buick let slip that both a coupe and convertible were being considered for the Regal range. A few days later we brought you a preview of the hardtop two-door, and today, we have a preview of what the convertible version might look like.

Roger McCormack, Buick's product marketing director, let slip during a consumer webchat session that a coupe variant is under "very strong consideration," and also added that a convertible is possible. The same basic rumor has been circulating in one form or another since 2007--before the Regal was even built on its Opel Insignia underpinnings.

The Opel Insignia is the source of today's preview rendering, as well. With the European version of what we know as the Regal also expected to get a convertible, this preview should suffice to give us an idea as to what both will look like--the Regal essentially swaps badges and grilles with the Opel in terms of exterior differences.

Inside, the new convertible will almost certainly be very closely related to the standard Regal, with the same wheel, instrument, and console layout. Given that the coupe and convertible aren't likely due until 2012 or 2013 at the very earliest--2014 is an outside possibility--however, there may yet be changes to the entire Regal lineup that will be reflected in the convertible.

Still, the rendering gives you a good idea what to expect, even if you will have to wait the better part of three years to see it on the road.
