The return of Abarth is a success for Fiat. The hot little 500 Abarth has a waiting list, and for those wanting a bit more room could go for the more modern Grande Punto Abarth. The tuning company has been working on an in-house sports car that won’t share a Fiat platform.
Now, Auto Express is now suggesting that the sports car will share a platform with KTM’s X-bow, pronounced “crossbow.” The car, actually built by Volkswagen, is a super lightweight sports car that uses an Audi Engine coupled to a DSG gearbox. Thanks to car’s use of a carbon fiber monocoque and lack of creature comforts, the curb weight comes in around 1500 pounds.
Unlike the X-bow, the Abarth should get more conventional and streamlines stying that includes a windshield. Its general shape should reflect the more road-worthy Lotus Elise. While the chassis might be similar, expect the car to be powered by Fiat’s own 1.4L Turbocharged MultiAir engine pumping out 200 horsepower.
Production will be limited according to Auto Express, with a total of 2,000 to be built. Prices will start, for England, at £42,000.
