Ladies and gentlemen: In the world of sports sedans, the competition is as fierce as ever. Rivals such as the Jaguar XFR, BMW M5 and Maserati Quattroporte are--more than ever--vying neck-and-neck for the best luxury sports sedan. Mercedes-Benz is no exception.
The 2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG doesn't have to rely on gimmicky commercials or catchy catchphrases to sell itself. No. From the moment you plop your buttocks down on the hand-crafted AMG perforated seats and push the "start engine" button--a slight feeling of ecstasy rushes over you. You can hear, and feel, the 500+ horses that the mighty 6.3-liter V-8 is now turning over, but ever so slightly--as any hint of an unrefined sound or feeling in such an automobile would all but kill the high.
The 2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is second-to-none in the luxury sports-sedan market. It shares virtually the same AMG, hand-crafted 6.3-liter V-8 (good for 525 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque) as its bigger brother--the S63 AMG and slays its competitors in practically every aspect of performance, design and engineering. To label the E63 the "benchmark of sports sedans" wouldn't do it justice.
The engine in this Benz is only one part of the equation, however. The suspension--a masterpiece from the top talent at the AMG plant in Germany--uses Mercedes/AMG's proprietary front steel struts for maximum feedback to the driver while pushing the Benz to its limits, and rear multi-link axle with air springs that enable AMG's automatic ride leveling: to keep the car square on the ground. All of this perfectly complements AMG's 7-speed MCT sport automatic transmission.
All this is tied to the award-winning 3-stage ESP (electronic stability program) settings. A simple push of the sleek, transmission tunnel-mounted ESP button can change the ride from sporty and firm--and back from sporty to luxuriously smooth sailing.
Upon greeting your E63, you notice the bold, striking lines and sophisticated sheet metal that envelopes the car: snug as a glove, alright. Behind the beautiful chrome wheels, you catch a glimpse of the massive 14.2 inch, perforated and ventilated disc brakes and gorgeous calipers. The AMG badging on the tail and the side-panels reassure you that this car isn't for the faint of heart, and the front fascia is an exciting mix of sophistication and sport--and all-around classical Mercedes cues with futuristic touches to the grille and angular headlamps.
Of course, the cockpit of the 2010 E63 is where the driver spends his time. Once you get past the euphoric feeling of the finely-stitched AMG leather--and the gorgeous carbon fiber trim (option)--you realize that you're not actually in a car...well, not JUST in a car. You're in a plush cockpit and you are staring down the road, eagerly (salivating, at this point) waiting to leave other cars in the dust, no proverbial cliche included.
You must drive...err, launch...the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG to fully experience the magic. Otherwise, the said "magic" could become just from another cliched catchphrase in a generic sea of marketing.
