Pebble Beach is fast approaching, and Motor Authority will be on hand to bring you live coverage for the event. One of the highlights of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion that runs concurrent to the Concours d'Elegance will be a tribute to Dan Gurney, featuring 24 famous Gurney cars.

If you don't know Dan Gurney, you don't know American racing. The first driver to ever win races in Formula 1, NASCAR, and Indy, Gurney is a legend both behind the wheel and as a constructor. His company, All American Racers, built many of the top racing cars of its era, including, with the cooperation of Weslake, its own Formula 1 car.

The tribute at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion will feature F1 cars, Can-Am cars, NASCAR cars, Indy Cars, Trans-Am cars and a range of sports and formula cars all either driven and built by Gurney.

Beyond his contributions as a driver and constructor, Gurney is also the originator of the champagne-spraying tradition, kicked off on the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans podium when Gurney sprayed his co-driver, A.J. Foyt. His influence on racing cannot be understated, and this tribute is sure to be a special event.

Gurney, ever the gentleman, said, "I am both humbled and blown away by what the Motorsports Reunion Management is putting together at Mazda Raceway. To see so many of the cars we have built over the last four decades assembled in one place is an occasion for celebration. My gratitude goes to the many car owners who were willing to bring the cars I raced so long ago to the show. Thanks for keeping history alive, thanks for the memories."

The tribute will be held August 13-15 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
