2012 Dodge Magnum (Durango) Caught Undisguised -- via @AsianMartin / Twitter

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office already gave us a very good idea of what to expect from the upcoming 2012 Dodge Durango/Magnum, but now Twitter has stepped up to the grainy, yet highly informative plate with an image from what appears to be the interior of a Chrysler plant.

The photo reveals the front three-quarters angle of a completely un-camouflaged Durango/Magnum, complete with blacked-out wheels and grille, hinting that this may have an appearance or performance package beyond the stock setup. But the really intriguing aspect isn't in the details: the overall shape and look of the new Magnum is, well, good.

That's a huge change from the current model, which looks a bit bloated and Ram-like. The new model is decidedly tighter, with sculpted curves and a front end that's vaguely Charger or Challenger-esque.

Beyond the looks, the new Magnum shares its platform with the new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, so it's almost assured to be a capable performer both on-road and off. Power will likewise be similar to the Jeep's, including the 3.6-liter V-6 and 5.7-liter HEMI options--though the HEMI brand name is sure to make a front-line appearance with the Dodge.

  1. Looks pretty good and should appeal to a wide group of consumers from those looking for 3 rows of seats to those looking for a very stylish peformance SUV.
Owned a 2002 Durango and it was a flawless workhorse that I drove all over America. Great vehicle, so I guess Dodge has hit that sweet spot again with this looker.

    Bad stuff?

  2. From a former Magnum RT owner, this is a really big disappointment. My Magnum RT was probably the best car I ever had. It was reliable, fun to drive, had functionality (station wagon) and above all its own attitude. Guess I'll quit waiting for the return of the real Magnum and get something else.

  3. A Durango is a Durango and should never be mistaken for a Magnum. I was hoping Dodge would reintroduce the Magnum but I guess that is not to be. I will have to settle for a good used one.

  4. Hey Nelson, evidently you drive one of those doo-rangos, if they put the name MAGNUM on this vehicle, we can be sure that Dodge has gone done the government motors toilet,,, Lower it down, stretch it out and power it with the Big 6L Hemi and maybe it will compare to my 2007 SRT Magnum,, until then,, this will be a supersized doo-rango...
