2011 Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible Overview

With a refined exterior and an updated look, the 2011 Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible will be a definite head turner as it zooms on by.

At initial glance, this Bentley appears to be a crossbred vehicle. It shimmers itself in luxury and opulence as all Bentleys intend to do so, but with massive air scoops shaped into its front bumper as well as other sporty touches, the Supersports has a much more aggressive stance than an ordinary luxury convertible. This is the kind of Bentley that you don’t stroll around the park in listening to Beethoven in; you take this to the open roads, put the top down and listen only to the massive W-12 twin-turbocharged engine roar!

The Supersports is essentially based off the Continental coupe but obviously has a soft top instead as well as other changes. The 621 brake horsepower engine remains consistent in both coupe and convertible. Even with a curb weight of 5,279 pounds, the Supersports Convertible still launches from zero to 60 in 3.9 seconds and Bentley claims that this vehicle can reach a top speed of 202 mph.

As noted before, the front end of this vehicle is shaped to maximize aerodynamics but more importantly airflow. Given the level of boost employed by the turbochargers, the car requires an arrangement of intercoolers laced throughout its engine bay. There are also massive radiators to help keep this beast from scorching up. Besides these practical applications, all the scoops and slits cut out in the front end add to its aggressive look. This is a car with attitude and Bentley successfully made it look the part.

With a price of $286,695 including a gas guzzler tax of $3,700, some may question the utility of this convertible. If you want fun in the sun, many convertibles offer that amenity, but this delivers so much more than that. Bentley did put the Supersports Convertible on a weight reduction campaign and it was successful; it weights 200 pounds less than the standard Continental convertible. This all-wheel drive convertible is a serious performance vehicle that offers the luxuries that Bentley is known for combined with sheer, raw power. All in all, it's much more than a soft top, it’s a hard hitter.
