With Chrysler stopping production of the ancient PT Cruiser, the Fiat 500 is one giant step closer to reaching showrooms as the Toluca plant in Mexico gets retooled for the fun-spirited sub-compact. Inside Line is speculating that the hot Abarth version will probably join the regular 500 at the plant as well.
The American 500 will essentially look like the current car sold elsewhere in the world, but will be built on a n updated chassis. The Abarth will more than likely get a new 1.4L Turbocharged engine called MultiAir, however the base engine still produces the same 135 horsepower the current engine. The MultiAir engine doesn't use a standard throttle body, instead controls the individual intake valves within the cylinder chamber, which helps improve power by 10% and emmissions by 10%
Inside Line also suggests that Abarth is planning a coupe version of the 500, much like the Mini Cooper Coupe and Roadster concepts. The car is inspired by the 750 Zagato Abarth of the the ‘50s and ‘60s. It will feature a sleeker roofline with laid-back roof pillars, and the roof will get the Zagato double bubble treatment. The site is suggesting that the coupe will get the hotter version of the MultiAir engine producing 168 horsepower, or 178hp with the EsseEsse tuning package.
