Ferrari has announced something obvious today during their annual dealer meeting; they are going to build the 458 Italia. There have been plenty spy shots and video of a special 458 Italia being tested. Though it was obvious what the car would be, now the facts have been shown.
Ferrari knows when they have a good thing going, so the 4.5L V-8 stays stock, making a still amazing 560 horsepower and 400 ft lbs of torque. However, the F1 gearbox has been modified to deliver torque at a lower RPM range r (the current car’s peak torque comes in at 6,000rpm.) It also features the E-diff, which is a first for a racing Ferrari.
As other track-cars, the name of the game is weight reduction and Ferrari did the best they could to strip the fat off the road going car. The bodyshell panels are less thick than the 458 Italia, as well as substituting in lexan windows and carbon fiber body panels to reduce weight.
Suspension gets upgraded to aluminum bushings, stiffer springs and shocks, a lower ride-height of 30mm (little over an inch,) as well as center lug 19 inch wheels an Pirelli racing slicks. The brakes are the same Brembo CCM2 units also on the 599xx.
The car has a special track-specific traction control sytem called F1-Trac. After extensive testing the system offers only two settings: wet and dry. In very high grip situations, the driver will be able to turn the car completely off.
The car will make its racing debut alongside the 430 Challenge in this make-specific racing league.
