Racing isn't always just about the driver, the car, or the team. Sometimes it's about the race itself--or in the case of Pikes Peak, the mountain. Though they set out with hopes of smashing the world record and breaking the 10-minute barrier, Rhys Millen and Hyundai saw those hopes fall apart as the mountain became temperamental.

With more pavement along the route's 12.42-mile length than ever before, everyone, including Millen, predicted the fall of the 10-minute barrier. But that was before rain, hail, and incidental mechanical issues sneaked in to put a damper on the run for the record. Millen and Hyundai ended up having to settle for third. This video condenses their week of struggle into just a few minutes.
