There are a lot of interesting videos on the web featuring the GT3, both the latest version like the GT3 R hybrid and the past 996-era GT3.
The First Video comes way of Autocar, who got to test-drive the Porsche GT3 R Hybrid, a few weeks after the 24 Hours of Nürburgring where the car broke down in the final hour after leading its class. The video features some great in-car commentary as the driver laps Eurospeedway Lausitz. One of the more interesting points made out in the video is that the electric boost can be counteracted by the 12-stage traction control, wasting it. It’s great to hear a non-professional driver talk about using the car’s system and how quickly it regenerates at the track.
The other video features a previous generation GT3 RS being used for a sport that the track-day special rarely gets used for anymore: rally racing. Any rally fan will watch this rear-wheel-drive sports car conquering this year’s Sachsen Rallye in Germany and be reminded of the two-wheel-drive days of the late 70’s and early 80’s, before Audi’s Quattro dominated the sport. While the GT3 RS is a fine racing car in its own right, Driver Sieger Olaf Dobberkau and Co-Driver Alexandra König should get most of the credit for great drift control.
