The folks at Classic Recreations have been building and restoring classic Mustangs for years including the Gone in 60 Seconds "Eleanor" Ford Mustang from the movie but those days might be over as they have come under investigation for VIN fraud.  According to a local TV station, KOCO the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is alleging that Classic Recreations based in Yukon, OK just west of Oklahoma City has been pulling VIN numbers from older cars and attaching them to new chassis'.  This practice is highly illegal in itself but the OSBI is also claiming Classic Recreations would then present these cars as the originals which amounts to fraud.  These restored Mustangs are not cheap as they command prices in the $175K range.

OSBI is taking this matter of VIN fraud very seriously as they were seen hauling away several restored and partially restored Mustangs on flatbed trucks although nobody has been charged or arrested yet.

The owner of Classic Recreations Jason Engel has denied any and all wrongdoing related to his shop.  His official statement is below.

"The quote attributed to Jason Engel in a single local Oklahoma news report is second hand information that was misquoted by the local media outlet. Classic Recreations denies any and all wrongdoing. Like thousands of other restoration shops and hobbyists across the country, Classic Recreations builds vintage cars with original and aftermarket parts - the restoration marketplace should pay attention to what is happening here. The shop has built a reputation for building the highest quality vehicles and delivering unrivaled customer satisfaction and will continue to do so in the future."

  1. Like shelby said himself, what is the difference if you have a junk shelby and only use the roof and build the rest. there is more stuff going on then this, there is a shop in crawfordsville indiana that is buying junk fastbacks and changing vin to make BOSS and DRAGPAKS, for a guy other seas and it seems like they are laundering money, but nobody see this but the people who work there
