The Bugatti Veyron represents the pinnacle of the automotive world. There are faster cars that will beat it around a track, but those cars cannot match the quality, engineering and everyday-friendliness that the Veyron manages to pull off.
After the news that the Veyron was going to have a new 1,200 horsepower version called the SuperSport coming out, it was only time to see what the new car could do. Yesterday, Bugatti took a black and orange example out to the Volkswagen proving grounds in Ehra-Lessien, Germany. They brought along officials from the German Technical Inspection Agency (The people that okay modified cars) and representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records.
Like most speed-records, the Veyron SuperSport had to drive one way, and then return going the opposite direction. The top speed from both runs, recorded using GPS for accuracy, is averaged to give the official top speed. The results were an amazing 431 kilometers an hour, or about 286 mph.
However, those who purchase a SuperSport won’t get to brag that their car will match that speed either. Each car will be limited to 258 miles per hour due to the tires’ speed rating.
