Some of us may have had our doubts about the 2010 Porsche Boxster Spyder. Some of us may have wondered about it’s true purpose. Some of us may have wondered how much better a Boxster could be if it were a little lighter, slightly more powerful, a smidge lower, and a touch stiffer. Some of us may have wondered if those improvements would be negated by the car’s lack of a radio, air conditioning, and cup holders. Some of us...are now hiding in shame as they’ve discovered just how misplaced those doubts were. Some of us now understand that the Spyder’s true purpose is to teach us to drive with one hand, as the other is often too busy wiping tears of joy from our eyes.

By now, we’re all well aware that the Boxster Spyder is a fabulous hunk of German machinery. And as wonderful as California’s eternal sunshine is, this fair-skinned writer rarely feels the desire to cruise along the Pacific Coast Highway with the top down. That’s why I’m a fan of the Porsche Cayman, and was excited to hear ZerCustoms announce that rumors are beginning to surface about Porsche putting the Cayman on a similar diet to the one that has proved to be so successful for the Boxster.

Rumored to be called the Cayman Clubsport, the coupe is expected to receive a 6.5-10 percent power increase (20-30 horsepower) over the stock Cayman S, which boasts 300 horsepower from its 3.4-liter flat six. In addition, we can expect the Cayman to receive the same kind of treatment that the Boxster received in creating the Spyder. In other words, along with the diet, it’ll probably get a lower center of gravity, improved suspension, and bigger brakes. However, rumors about the Cayman Clubsport have been going around for a couple of years now with nothing officially confirmed regarding the project, so don’t start picking options just yet.
