Even though we are four years out and possibly another model redesign from the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang one automotive publication is fueling rumors of a Shelby and Ford uber Mustang.  Recently MotorTrend published an article citing John Luft, newly crowned president of Shelby American saying Carroll Shelby is in talks with Ford on a 50th anniversary Shelby Mustang.  The article goes on to say Shelby has been spending alot of time in Dearborn lately hard at work on possibly a new limited edition Shelby Mustang.  With the 50th anniversary of the Mustang slated for 2014 it seems like a long way off but it does make sense as these limited editions involve a boat load of planning and R&D.  Also in the article MotorTrend goes on to explain this won't be your run of the mill badged and striped Shelby Mustang but something special and unlike we have ever seen before.

On a side note these rumors seem a little forthcoming as Shelby American recently announced they were shifting their focus away from building cars to their thriving Performance Parts business.  Shelby was recently quoted as saying "I want to build fewer cars and sell more parts. It's hard to make any money on a car. But our parts business is growing 15 to 20 percent a year. We are downsizing and going for the parts business... Simplify the business – that's what I'm saying. And that's what I'm doing in Las Vegas."

Not sure what you can believe these days but I would put my money on Ford and Shelby continuing their relationship.
