Summer is here and that means one thing for me. No, I’m not thinking about BBQs or baseball season! I, and my fellow automotive comrades are talking about an entirely different season, one that deserves its own recognition--the car season. That special time of year when the weather gets warmer and car covers start coming off. Where everywhere automotive lovers are opening their garage doors to wake their shiny babies up from the long winter months of dusty hibernation in preparation for a summer packed with events and shows all dedicated to this miraculous thing called the car. Besides the days of fun in the sun and the many nights of summer cruising, there is one thing that any real automotive connoisseur should never miss out on. For this avid auto enthusiast and many others alike, the Monterey Car Week is the single greatest and most anticipated lineup of vintage car events that one can look forward to each and every year.
For those who don’t know, the Monterey Car Week is the Holy Grail of classic automotive gatherings. Every August thousands of people from all over the world flock to one place to celebrate their common bond for the automobile. Set in the coast of beautiful Northern California, surrounded by miles of rolling vineyards, wineries, and national parks, the county of Monterey becomes an automotive haven during the time of year when it has the honor of hosting this wondrous celebration of historic culture. Much of this spectacle takes place in Monterey County’s precious little town of Carmel by the Sea. Though considered to be very small in comparison to California’s most famous places to visit, Carmel is widely recognized for many of its unique qualities—such as once being governed by mayor and gun slinging Western film star, Clint Eastwood. Carmel is also renowned for its unique European charm, white sandy beaches, fine art galleries, award-winning restaurants, abundant shopping, and natural beauty.
If the breath-taking atmosphere of Monterey’s gorgeous surroundings is not enough to leave one stricken with awe, the stunning array of automotive life this August will. Though classic cars are the general feature of the Monterey Car Week, there is not a limit to the types of cars and items that dozens of auto clubs, vendors, and let alone thousands of spectators who in addition want to be a part of this glamorous scenery will bring in a given year. There is not another time or place where it is likely to believe that one could happen to stumble upon a handful of Bugatti Veyrons parked alongside each other--only in Monterey! So get ready for another exciting week full of great people, awesome cars, and many surprises to come.
