Coming Soon: 2011 Ford Fiesta

This week we will be looking at some of the cars that will be hitting the market in the next year or so that definitely deserve the attention of any member of Generation Y. Let's start with the all-new 2011 Ford Fiesta.

The problem with the Fiesta is that I was angrily gritting my teeth while writing "coming soon" in the title. In fact, that coming soon bit is starting to tick off a lot of people.

The new 2011 Ford Fiesta was rumored to be arriving June 23rd at the dealership I work at. Was it there when I went in to work that day? Nope. Apparently the cars are still loafing around in Mexico waiting to get on a truck. Customers are starting to get impatient, and it's easy to see why.

This is the first car Ford will be selling in the U.S. that brings its fantastic "kinetic" design language to the table. Compared to other B-segment cars like the Toyota Yaris, Chevrolet Aveo and Honda Fit, the Fiesta is easily the most handsome of the group. Take a look at the interior (pictured above). I have yet to sit in one, but judging by the photograph this may be one of the best interiors offered in a small Ford.

All versions come with a 1.6-liter Ti-VCT engine mated to either a 5-speed manual box or the all-new 6-speed dual-clutch automatic, a Ford first. Opting for the latter means 29 city and 40 highway mpg figures.

The biggest hope that I have for this car is that it will be a small car that isn't a penalty box, unlike the Festiva and Aspire. Ford has shown time and time again that they really know how to tune a chassis. As long as they keep it up with the Fiesta, it should fall into that magical category of slow cars that you love to drive fast. Stay tuned, because as soon as one of these hits the lot I will be doing a head-to-head comparison between it and my mother's Honda Fit.
