Expected to make its world debut this October at the 2010 Paris Auto Show, the production version of 2007's Hyundai Veloster concept is coming to replace the Tiburon sports coupe and should do nicely thanks to a 40 mpg fuel economy rating.
That’s the promise of Hyundai’s U.S. chief John Krafcik, who also revealed to Autoblog that the car’s fuel economy will be better than that of the 2011 Honda CR-Z Hybrid, which can only muster up a 36/39 mpg city/highway rating despite its advanced gasoline-electric drivetrain.
Not only will it be more efficient, but Krafcik claims that Hyundai’s new sports coupe (no name has been announced but Veloster and Tiburon are making the rounds) will be sportier to drive than the CR-Z as well as roomier--the Hyundai will feature two back seats while the Honda CR-Z has none.
Thanks to its expected conventional four-cylinder gasoline engine, the Hyundai sports coupe should also be cheaper than the Honda CR-Z, and will still feature plenty of high-tech goodies such as a large screen on the dashboard and plenty of connectivity options.
The U.S. release date is pegged for early next year. In the meantime, check out spy shots of a prototype over at MotorAuthority.com.
