Corvette celebrates 50th anniversary of racing at Le Mans

"Racing is life. Everything before and after is just waiting." This iconic quote, from Micheal Delaney, Steve McQueen's character in the movie Le Mans, sums up what every dedicated racer, professional or amateur, feels about the sport. And nowhere is the sentiment more focused that at the legendary Circuit de la Sarthe itself. This episode of the Corvette Racing series takes a look back at the car's history at the 24 Hours of Le Mans as the team prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary at the world's most famous endurance race.

From the original race cars to their drivers, from the current GT2-spec car to the team that's putting them on the track, the video shows just how much the race at Le Mans means to the Corvette Racing program. As the green flag draws near, the anticipation is building to see if the latest Corvette race cars, drivers, and team have what it takes to not only finish, but to dominate.

Despite the Corvette's reigning position as America's greatest production sports car, the team still has an underdog attitude. Based largely on a production car that's a fraction of the price of most of the other cars in its class, the two GT2-class Corvette C6.Rs will take on six Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs, two BMW M3 GT2s, five Ferrari F430 GTs, a Jaguar XKRS, an Aston Martin Vantage, and a Spyker C8 Laviolette as it fights for the win.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans kicks off this weekend, June 12-13.
