Porsche Creates Interactive Website To Showcase 2011 911 GT2 RS

2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS

With all the spy photos and ‘unofficial’ information being circulated about the Web this week, I couldn't overlook Porsche's latest 911 GT2 RS any longer. I mean, it’s the most powerful 911 Porsche has ever produced. All I'm saying is, I think you should know about it.

The engineers at Porsche were given the objective to make this the most powerful 911 in the company's history. The GT2 RS is an absolute success in this category, with a 620 horsepower 3.6-liter, six-cylinder boxer engine. These exceptional power figures come courtesy of twin turbochargers with variable turbine geometry. Bottom line--it launches the GT2 RS from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds. It will also take you all the way up to 205 mph if you've got the space.

The race-ready chassis delivers the incredible handling that Porsche is known for, while transmitting the engine's monster power to the track. Adjustable ride height, camber, toe angle and stabilizers make this a true racing machine.

Among other highlights is the vehicle's lightweight design and advanced safety features. The use of exotic materials, like carbon-fiber, allowed designers to cut 155 pounds from the weight of the standard GT2. For the driver's safety, Porsche has designed and patented a bodyshell that uses strategically placed members to distribute collision impact forces around the passenger cell.

For all the details and lots more photos, check out Porsche's official GT2 RS site and you will indeed be in awe. I spent a few minutes playing with the "Colorator" feature and whipped up a beautiful new wallpaper for my laptop.

Porsche doesn't list the price on its site, although Car and Driver reports a sticker price of around $245,000 in the U.S. Production will be limited to 500 worldwide, so most of us will have to find another way to spend that quarter of a million bucks hidden under our mattresses. I will just go ahead and stop writing now, since you all probably left a long time ago to drool over the photos of the GT2 RS.
