The United States gets stiffed on some really awesome cars all the time. One of the best examples are cars built by Weismann. Unlike some kit cars, there factory built machines have retro-styling without copying, and use the latest technology for the best performance.

The company was founded by two brothers, Martin and Friedhelm Weismann, who were looking for a car on the market that nobody built, so the two got going on making the car they wanted. After three years, their prototype was built. They started the company by making fiberglass hardtops for convertibles, and by 1993 their first car was produced. The classically styled roadster called the MF3 is still produced today.

Like most small and specialized manufacturers, Weismann does not make their own engines; instead they purchase engines from BMW. The smallest engine, found in the MF3, is the 3.2L inline-six found in the Z4 M and the previous M3 generation. The MF4 comes with BMW’s 4.8L V-8 also found in the Morgan Aero 8. The top of the line MF5 gets its power from the M5’s 5.0L V-10.

Performance is evident cars. The MF3 Roadster goes 0-62 in about 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 160 miles an hour. The MF4 will reduce the 0-62 time to between 4.6 or 4.4 seconds, depending on the rear axle ratio, and will top out at 188 mph. The MF5 will scream to 62 in 3.2 seconds and will run out at 193 miles an hour.

Handling is an amazing as well. In a Top Gear episode, Jeremy Clarkson described the MF3 as having

massive grip and amazing brakes. Even with such little travel in the suspension, he was also surprised to find that the car had good ride quality as well.

Styling hasn’t changed much from the first cars, but when the cars are this timeless restyling doesn’t matter. The roadsters are a combination of the 50’s Jaguar XKs and the big Austin Healeys. The GTs look similar, but add a little Triumph GT6 or XKE coupe styling as well.

There were plans on selling Weismanns in the United States this year, but with poor exchange rates, they have postponed the notion of bringing these cars over here.
