Motor Trend Magazine is on the ball when it comes to comparing the 2011 Ford Mustang. They were the first to get seat time in the V-6, the first to compare GT to the similarly equipped Challenger and Camaro.
Now they’ve taken the V-6 Mustang and pitted it against its rivals: The 2010 Dodge Challenger SE, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro RS and the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8.

Thanks to its extra gear, the new five-speed auto offers better fuel-economy than the outgoing four-speeder
Enlarge PhotoThe Challenger SE is obviously the black sheep of the group: it produces the least amount of power, it is the heaviest and it isn’t available with a manual transmission (not to mention an antiquated 5-speed automatic.)So it was no wonder it came in last. If you were looking for a sporty and fun car, look elsewhere. However, Motor Trend thought it was a decent cruiser, as it was the most quite, didn’t squeak or rattle, and had the most interior and cargo volume of the four.
Third place went to the Camaro RS. One reason for it being in a low position in the comparison was due to its 3800 pound curb weight. Motor Trend is surprised that
Ford and Hyundai can offer similar cars that weigh 300 pounds less, yet it did offer decent performance. Another reason was the lack of feel that the car provided. The steering wheel was too big, as well as the shifter, plus the poor visibility and steering feel from the 20 inch rolling stock killed the driving experience. Their take is that the Camaro needs less weight, not more power.
Surprise! The 2011 Mustang V-6 came in second. Apparently the new coupe posted the best times out of the four, plus when the sole-option is the Performance Package, gives the car a bargain price. Motor Trend was less pleased with the interior of the base mustang, as it felt too cheap.
The Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 won the comparison. The Coupe was more fun to drive compared to the Mustang. It provide better steering feel, more response from the drivetrain and a better build quality that wasn’t in the other three. Apparently it was all thanks to new camber bolts that cost $30 dollars.
