Many of us have drooled over the R32 edition of the Volkswagen Golf. Up to this point the R designation hasn’t been an official division of Volkswagen unlike the BMW M Series or Mercedes AMG division. That all changes this month in 2010, Volkswagen officially announced their in-house tuning division called R GmbH.

The new division will be responsible for creating exclusive performance vehicles and is expected to offer R versions for nearly all models in the Volkswagen family. General Manager of Volkswagen R GmbH, Ulrich Riestenpatt gt. Richter, explained to Leftlane News that their “vehicles contribute to the emotionalisation and growth of Volkswagen brand.” Part of this “emotionalisation” is an added level of customization that will be offered to customers.

VW hasn’t officially announced all of the R models that will come to the United States, but we expect the Golf R to make its debut by the end of 2011. There was also the Passat CC in R trim at the Detroit Auto Show, which could forecast the next vehicles to be released to consumers in the states. Be sure to stay tuned right here at CollegeCarGuide.com to find out more news on the R division as we get it.
