Bugatti 16C Galibier Concept

Bugatti doesn't know how to do anything small these days, with even the rather compact Veyron turning out some seriously big numbers--253 mph, 1,000 horsepower, $1.8 million price tag--and things are just getting bigger, with the 16C Galibier Concept sedan headed toward production. Today, we have a gallery of new photos of the car that takes luxury performance sedans to new heights.

While the Aston Martin Rapide and Porsche Panamera Turbo can be considered super-sedans in their own right, the Galibier 16C is in a class of its own: it's powered by an 8.0-liter W-16 engine mated to a twin-clutch gearbox, 800-horsepower output and hosues more sculpture, art and fine materials than an equivalent space at the Louvre.

The latest gallery gives us an even more detailed look at what to expect, though to be sure, it's incomplete--a car like this must be not only seen, but felt, smelled, and fully experienced. Until we get our crack behind the wheel of one, however, the gallery will have to do.

  1. This is just a caricature (or should that be car-icature) of every three Bugattis: the beautiful 57S Atlantic, the Elephantine 41 Royale, and the latest Veyron.
It looks like someone took one of the big Porsche or Aston super sedans and glued some leftover Audi parts and a couple of extra exhaust pipes to it.
Still, I'm not their target market - I don't have more money than sense.

  2. It's truly amazing that such craftsmanship can go into something with such a hideous profile.

  4. This is the german interpretation of the Bugatti design language. With that R8 character trim, it actually looks like a top-of-the-line Audi. What VW is forgetting is that at this price point the vehicle should be visually stunning as well as mechanically competent and true to the marque's history--they're only batting 1 for 3 here. A supercharged straight 8 would have been more appropriate than the VW parts-bin W16. Some graceful fenders would seem an obvious necessity for a Bugatti as well. Believe it or not, owners don't need to drive sedans over 200 mph, even on the autobahn.

  5. It's a beautiful car, however I don't think I would pay the $1.45 million for one, well if i had it.

  6. This seems to be built on the Panamera platform. I put the two profiles over each other, and it seems pretty obvious to me.

  8. Many posts overlook the fact Porsche Panamera has been heavily by the old 1992 Bugatti EB112 concept. Historically, Bugatti made expensive cars so that will not change anytime soon. As for the engine, inline8 does not cut anymore in today car, W16 engine is proven especially with its torque, low rpm, ability to cut power and cylinders. Because few hundred Galibier will be made, why not having 200 mph four doors car that feels like 80 mph?
