Earlier this month, Sports Car Monitor assumed that the Subaru version of the FT-86 would be coming with an all-wheel-drive system seen in the rest of the Subaru product range.

Website 7tune.com has reported today that the Subaru, called in the article 216A, will not have all-wheel-drive.

Apparently the costs of developing a separate all-wheel-drive for the shared platform would have cost too much money to develop and would have brought the sticker price of the Subaru much higher than what the company would like.

This will make Subaru will be the same car mechanically as the FT-86, which will be a lightweight 2+2 that comes with a 200hp Subaru sourced flat four and rear wheel drive. Subaru’s planned STi variant will also be similar to the G-Sports FT-86.

In order to combat the badge engineering label between the two cars, 7tune is reporting that Subaru will instead focus on the styling of the car. Most of the changes will be from the A pillar forward to give the Subaru distinction.

There are also price predictions of the G-Sports/STi versions of the cars price in Japan as being 3.5 million yen (around $38,000.)
