Sales numbers for the
Chevrolet Camaro in February show us deliveries picked up from the previous month and for the ninth straight month the Camaro has outsold the Mustang. Even the winter weather and snowstorms across much of the country had little to no effect on Camaro sales with another strong showing for February. I expect similar numbers as we move into spring but the Camaros dominance may be coming to an end as 2011 Mustang production begins in April with models arriving at dealerships soon after. Expect Mustang sales to rebound in a big way in May through the end of the year.
For those who have been living under a rock the 2011 Mustang will feature two new engines, a 3.7-liter V-6 with 305 horsepower and 31 mpg and the 412 horsepower 5.0-liter V-8 engine for the Mustang GT. This should really heat up the pony wars and level the playing field.
Sales of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro for February of 2010 were 6,482 compared to 5,371 from the previous month showing a 21% increase in month-to-month sales. Year to date Camaro sales are 11,853.
A look at the competition reveals the Ford Mustang sold 5,115 and the Dodge Challenger sold 2,145 for February.
