As 2009 came to a close so did the first full year of Challenger sales with the numbers not really telling us much.  At around 25K Challengers sold is the number good or bad, well it's hard to tell as the Mustang sold a disappointing 66K and the Camaro sold around 60K.  Compared to both the Mustang and Camaro I would say it's bad but how many Challengers did Chrysler expect to sell in the first place.  If Chrysler is profiting from just 25K units sold than times are good, if not something has to be done to improve sales whether its more incentives or better APR financing terms.  The complete rundown on Challenger sales is below.

Sales of the Dodge Challenger for December of 2009 were 2,536 compared to 2,602 from December of 2008 showing a 3% decrease in sales from the previous year. Year to date Challenger sales are 25,852 compared to 17,423 for 2008, which is a 48% gain.

Month to Month sales had a nice healthy increase as November 2009 Challenger sales were 2,040 compared to December 2009 sales of 2,536 which is a 24% increase from the previous month.

Checking out the competition, Camaro sales were 7,548 while the Ford Mustang sold 6,327 in December.

For previous months of Challenger sales check out November 2009, October 2009, September 2009, August 2009, July 2009, June 2009, May 2009, April 2009 and February 2008 -  February 2009.

  1. The Challenger always was and always will be the RC Cola of muscle cars. That's why I love it. Mustangs and Camaros are everywhere, but Challengers are special.

    Bad stuff?

  2. The Mustang and Camaro have been in the public eye consistantly for years, with the Challenger just coming back. The Mustang and Camaro have dedicated customer base that Challenger needs to aquire.

  3. I would have to agree with both of you (John & Shawn). The Challenger only had 4 years back in the early 70's to aquire loyal owners/enthusiasts while the Mustang and Camaro have been around since the mid sixties with Millions of models produced and sold for the last 40+ years.

  4. I agree with all of the previous posts. Matt brings up some valid points but there is one thing that he overlooked. Not only have the Mustang and Camaro been around longer, but there are far more aftermarket parts for these vehicles than for the Challenger. I like the Challenger, but the availability of parts would be a concern.

  5. Mustangs and Camaro's are a dime a dozen cars. The Challenger is an automobile.
