1999 Ford Escort: My 30-MPG Ride

I am a proud owner of a very fuel-efficient car, a 1999 Ford Escort ZX2.

For a small vehicle, I'd have to say it has style, many standard features, a decent amount of room, and it has a little spice. With those traits, I am plenty glad to own this vehicle.

Did I mention that it gets 30 MPG combined?

As a fan of Ford, and all they're doing for the auto industry, which isn't arguable considering there the only one of the big three American automobile makers not to take a government loan, I'm very impressed with the car they produced 11 years ago. I can only imagine the car they produce today.

For example my car has around 150,000 miles on it, with a 2.0-liter engine paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. It is a perfect match. Not to much power, not to little, leading to a great comfortable ride, and an advantage of having a very small fuel tank of only, not 15, not 12, but 9 gallons. It cost me about $25 to fill up my car, from a little less than a quarter tank left.

Also, the interior of the car impresses me. It's very well designed and overall attractive. My bucket seat seems to almost mold around my body when I take the driver's seat. If i had passengers, it wouldn't be a problem. The back seat offers plenty of head room, and a moderate amount of leg room for a coupe, for the passengers.

Right now, when I look outside of my window, there's about 2 feet of snow sitting in my yard. Yet, I don't even worry about it with the way this car handles on the snow. I can drive with confidence, and make surprisingly quick cuts for only being a front-wheel-drive vehicle. The exterior of my car also is very impressive being quite sporty, featuring fog lights on the front end, and a rear spoiler on the trunk lid.

These are the many, many reasons I am a proud owner of a lightweight, small, 2 door coupe, that I expect to be driving around for quite awhile yet.
