2011 Audi A8

The wraps have just come off the all-new 2011 Audi A8, which is set to sail into showrooms in the second half of next year with a choice of V-6 and V-8 powerplants.

As the fourth generation of the flagship A8 sedan, the 2011 A8 offers an all-new look and a range of updated technology. But what it will also offer is a brand new, high-performance S8 variant.

According to Audi design director Stefan Sielaff, the new S8 will be a very important model in the automaker’s lineup as it will influence the design of future performance models wearing the four-ring logo.

"It will create a new design grammar which will also go onto the next S6, S7 and S1," said Sielaff, confirming the development of hotted-up versions of the upcoming A7 four-door coupe and A1 compact.

As for the new range of S models, Sielaff revealed that they would have more visual differentiation over the standard models than the current range. He also explained that the cars would have more aluminum and carbon-fiber trim inside the cabin to emphasize their performance aspect to occupants.

No details about the S8’s new powertrain were revealed but expect it to feature a forced-induction V-8 engine rather than the Lambo-sourced V-10 of the current model.

  1. I think it's the A7/S7 that will be the one to watch-out for.. newcomers/upscalers to the Audi fold will surely be waiting for the A1/S1.
And hope to see Abt build some modified versions of the S1, S7 and S8.

    Bad stuff?

  2. Great to see Audi adopt the retractable screen design so the dash can return to the better appearance or the late 90s/early 00s. Now, if they would just get rid of all the brightwork....

  3. It's nice to see Audi raise the specific output of the venerable 4.2L V8, but they should really consider increasing engine size which will provide more torque. Grand Ma is not thrilled having to rev her engine past 4K to get the car moving.
"There is no replacement for displacement"

Um, the previous generation A8/S8 had a retractable Nav screen...
In the gallery - the photos are captioned "2011 Audi A8 NWB" I've heard of SWB (Short Wheelbase) and LWB (Long Wheelbase) - What's an NWB???

  5. @ NC2000- The A8 has had the retractable nav screen for the past 6 or so years that I'm aware of.
I wish the states were getting the A7.

  6. bepsf, Audi is calling its short wheelbase model the "Normal Wheel Base" model or NWB. The long wheelbase model remains the long wheelbase model.

  9. Great post.I was wondering this stuff only.I read on another site that it was a low 20s to fight the mini and other tiny sporty cars. The A3 is an A4 hatch and would compete against the C30. This A1/S1 will be much smaller. This is a mini A3.

  10. Gifts for men - the A1 is designed to be a tiny city car, competing with cars like the Mini etc... The A2 will be the size of a VW Polo (I think it's built off the same platform) and the A3 will become a little larger, but nowhere near the size of the A4... The new A5 Sportback is regarded as an A4 hatch. The C30 is more likely to compete against the A2, it is too small to compete against the A3 and too big for the A1.
